Abstract
Picture book is not only a literary but also a pedagogical medium of authentic learning. It is a rich tool used all over the world and is also used in several public schools in Turkey such as the Tevfk Fikret High School, where French is taught to children in kindergarten and primary school. In foreign language teaching, there are several strategies. It is necessary to choose the right learning method and classroom materials. In this work, it is mainly emphasized that two learning methods can be used to achieve the desired goals. The use of the picture book is divided into the principles of the direct method and the communicative approach. Translation is also one of the strategies to be used in foreign language learning. Many theorists advise translating to the mother tongue, while others support the idea that translation is mainly aimed at working on intercultural competence and not on language acquisition. However, the main argument is that for young children, the picture book serves as a translation without resorting to the mother tongue. Thanks to the picture book, the child can imagine and think in the foreign language with the help of images and illustrations. Resimli çocuk kitabı (albüm) sadece edebi değil aynı zamanda pedagojik açıdan da özgün bir öğrenme aracıdır. Bütün dünyada kullanılan zengin bir araçtır ve Türkiye'de Tevfik Fikret Lisesi gibi anaokulu ve ilkokul çocuklarına Fransızca öğretilen birçok devlet okulunda da kullanılmaktadır. Yabancı dil öğretiminde çeşitli stratejiler vardır. Doğru öğrenme yöntemini ve sınıf materyallerini seçmek gerekir. Bu çalışmada, istenen hedeflere ulaşmak için temel olarak iki öğrenme yönteminin kullanılabileceği vurgulanmaktadır. Albümün kullanımı, doğrudan yöntem ve iletişimsel yaklaşım ilkelerine ayrılmıştır. Çeviri de yabancı dil öğreniminde kullanılacak stratejilerden biridir. Bir yandan, birçok kuramcı anadile çeviri yapılmasını tavsiye ederken, diğerleri çevirinin dil ediniminden ziyade kültürlerarası yeterlilik üzerinde çalışmayı amaçladığı fikrini desteklemektedir.
