Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explain the effectiveness of individual and social values in protective, preventive and intervening social work practices conceptually. The study aimed to reveal how functional the values are/can be in social work practices. In this context; the study tried to explain the definition, extent, functions and qualities of value, classification of values, structure and functions of individual and social values and the correlation between the values of the social work profession and social values. Values that transform attitudes into actions and give meaning to socio-cultural differences in society, are accepted as one of the most important social dynamics enabling us to understand “individual” (micro) and “society” (macro) in social work practices. Social work practices focus on the relationship between individual and environment and are conducted on the basis of professional values, as well as individual and social values. In order for the individual to get stronger, an intervention plan is created using the values the person possesses and cares about. Thus it is important to give an extensive place to the subjects related to individual, social and professional values in social service training, approaches, models and applications and to functionally increase the utilization practice of the members of the profession in the areas of protecting, preventing and intervening the values.

Bu çalışmanın amacı; bireysel ve toplumsal değerlerin, koruyucu, önleyici ve müdahale edici sosyal hizmet uygulamalarındaki etkililiğini kavramsal olarak açıklamak ve sosyal hizmet uygulamalarında, değerlerin ne denli işlevsel olduğunu/olabileceğini ortaya koymaktır. Bu kapsamda; değerin tanımı, kapsamı, işlev ve nitelikleri, değerlerin sınıflandırılması, bireysel ve toplumsal değerlerin yapısı ve işlevleri, sosyal hizmet mesleğinin değerleri ile toplumsal değerler arasındaki ilişki açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. Tutumların eylemlere dönüşmesini sağlayan ve toplumlarda sosyo-kültürel farklılıklara anlam veren değerler; sosyal hizmet uygulamalarında “birey”i (mikro) ve “toplum”u (makro) anlamada en önemli toplumsal dinamiklerden biri olarak kabul görmektedir. Sosyal hizmet uygulamaları, birey ve çevre arasındaki ilişkiye odaklanarak; mesleki değerlerin yanı sıra bireysel ve toplumsal değerleri merkeze alarak yürütülmektedir. Bireyin güçlenmesi için bireyin sahip olduğu ve önem verdiği değerleri kullanarak müdahale planı oluşturulur. Bu nedenle sosyal hizmet eğitimi, yaklaşımları, modelleri ve uygulamalarında; bireysel, toplumsal ve mesleki değerler ile ilgili konulara geniş bir şekilde yer verilmesi; meslek elemanlarının değerleri koruma, önleme ve müdahale alanlarında işlevsel olarak kullanma pratiklerinin artırılması önemlidir.
