Abstract

Aim: The study was conducted to examine the effect of kangaroo care on breastfeeding self-efficiency and breastfeeding success of mothers of premature infants. Methods: The study was conducted in an experimental design non-randomized, control group, pre-test-post-test. The study group consisted of 60 mothers (30 experimental / intervention, 30 control) who had premature infants hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit of two hospitals between June 2017 and January 2018. Questionnaire Form, Kangaroo Care Follow-up Form, LATCH Breastfeeding Diagnostic Measurement Tool, and Breastfeeding Self-Efficiency Scale were used to collect data. The data were analyzed on the computer by independent groups t-test, Mann Whitney U test, Pearson chi-square test, forward analysis Bonferroni test. Results: When breastfeeding self-efficiency scores were examined, breastfeeding self-efficiency scores of the mothers in the intervention (mean=54.40±8.11) and control group (mean = 52.73±7.12) in the pre-test were not statistically different (p>.05), and in the post-test, the intervention group scores (mean=63.40±6.90) were found to be significantly higher than the control group (mean=57.23±6.95) (p<.01). When the LATCH scale mean scores were evaluated in terms of breastfeeding success, both groups' pretest (intervention: 6.27±2.00; control: 6.93±1.89) and posttest (intervention: 9.90±.31; control: 9.60±.93) scores were not different (p> .05) has been determined. Conclusion: In this study, it was concluded that kangaroo care increased the breastfeeding self-efficiency level of mothers of premature infants whose infants were hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit. It was recommended that kangaroo care be applied to premature infants and their mothers in hospitals.

Özet

Amaç: Çalışma kanguru bakımının prematüre bebek annelerin emzirme öz-yeterlilik düzeyi ve emzirme başarısına etkisini incelemek amacıyla yapıldı. Yöntem: Araştırma randomize olmayan, kontrol gruplu, ön test-son test düzende deneysel tipte yapıldı. Çalışma grubu Haziran 2017-Ocak 2018 tarihleri arasında iki hastanenin yenidoğan yoğun bakım ünitesinde prematüre bebeği yatan 60 anneden (30 deney/girişim müdahale, 30 kontrol) oluştu. Verilerin toplanmasında Anket Formu, Kanguru Bakımı İzlem Formu, LATCH Emzirme Tanılama Ölçüm Aracı ve Emzirme Öz-Yeterlilik Ölçeği kullanıldı. Veriler bilgisayarda Bağımsız gruplarda t testi, Mann Whitney U testi, Pearson ki-kare testi, ileri analizi Bonferroni testi ile analiz edildi.Bulgular: Emzirme öz-yeterlilik puanları incelendiğinde ön testte müdahale (ort=54.40±8.11) ve kontrol grubundaki (ort=52.73±7.12) annelerin emzirme öz-yeterlilik puanlarının istatiksel olarak farklı olmadığı (p>.05), son testte ise müdahale grubunun puanlarının (ort=63.40±6.90) kontrol grubundan (ort=57.23±6.95) anlamlı şekilde yüksek olduğu saptandı (p<.01). Emzirme başarısı bakımından LATCH ölçeği puan ortalamaları değerlendirildiğinde her iki grubun ön test (müdahale: 6.27±2.00; kontrol: 6.93±1.89) ve son test (müdahale: 9.90±.31; kontrol: 9.60±.93) puanlarının farklı olmadığı (p>.05)belirlendi.Sonuç: Bu araştırmada kanguru bakımının bebeği yenidoğan yoğun bakım ünitesinde yatan prematüre bebek annelerinin emzirme öz-yeterlilik düzeyini artırdığı sonucuna ulaşıldı. Kanguru bakımının hastanelerde prematüre bebek ve annelerine uygulamasının yaygınlaştırılması önerildi.
