Abstract

In this study, AA5182/AA7075 aluminum alloy pairs were welded by friction stir spot welding (FSSW) technique using 1000, 1750 and 2700 rpm, stirrer times of 6 and 12 seconds and conical helical and triangular stirrer tips. Microstructural analyzes and mechanical tests were carried out to determine the effects of alloy pairs welded in different parameters on their joints. For this purpose, microstructural images formed in the welding zones were taken. In these images, it was seen that the alloy pairs of the stirrer tips were an important factor for a homogeneous joint. It was observed that the material flow was more uniform in the weld joint area, especially in welds where the conical helical tip is used. For mechanical tests, hardness measurements were taken first. In the measurements taken, higher hardness values were measured in the welds where the triangular stirrer tip was used, compared to the conical helical tips. Finally, the welded samples were subjected to tensile loads. As a result, it was seen that there was a smoother union in the microstructure image of the sample taken at the intersection of the conical helical tip's joints made at 2700 rpm and 12 seconds stirrer time, and as a result, the best results were obtained in the tensile tests.
