Abstract

Introduction: This study was conducted in order to adapt the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale (CAS), which was developed to determine the anxiety status of individuals during the coronavirus pandemic period, into Turkish. Methods: The methodological study was completed with 330 people. In data collection; introductory information form, CAS, Beck Anxiety Scale were used. Group translation and back translation technique was used for Turkish language adaptation of the scale, and expert opinion method was used for content validity. The evaluation of the data was made with the SPSS 21 package program. The reliability of the CAS has been tested by internal consistency analysis. The parallel form validity of the scale was also done with the Beck Anxiety Scale. Results: In the study, it was found that the fit was good in the analysis of expert opinions for the content validity of the scale (Kendall's W = 0,20, p = 0.092). Turkish CAS was determined to be a highly reliable scale (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.809). It was found that Turkish CAS was a parallel form with the Beck Anxiety Scale (r = 0.554; p < 0.001). When the items of the Turkish CAS were deleted, it was determined that the Cronbach's Alpha value did not increase, and the 5 items and the structure of the scale were unidimensional. It was found that the item-total correlation of the items of the scale was high and the internal consistency was at a good level. Conclusion: In order to evaluate the anxiety specific to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was determined that CAS is a valid and reliable measurement tool for Turkish culture. Our suggestion is to screen the risky groups during the pandemic period with the CAS and provide the necessary psychological support to individuals with anxiety.
