Abstract

Purpose: In this study, it was aimed to investigate the effect of aerobic step exercise on stress level, quality of life and menstrual status in sedentary women. Method: In the research, sedentary women performing aerobic step exercises in Samsun sports halls were filled with personal information questionnaire as well as stress level perception and quality of life questionnaires. 398 sedentary women who completed the questionnaires were subjected to statistical procedures. The data collected in this study were evaluated with SPSS 22 statistical program. Chi square and Independence tests were used in the study. Findings: When the women who do not do sports in the research evaluated their health status according to themselves, they stated that 17,84% were bad, 53,27% were middle and 28,89% were good. 67.6% of sedentary women were found to have regular menstruation and 32.4% were menstruation irregular.. The stress score of woman with regular menstruation was 24.44, whereas those with irregular menstruation were found to have a stress score of 27.30. Stress scores of women with regular menstrual cycles are significantly lower than those of women with irregular menstruation (p<0,001). In addition, those with regular menstruation regularly have a significantly higher physical and psychological score than those with irregular menstruation. (p<0,05). The irregular menstrual vision rate of those attending regular physical activity for the last 3 years is lower than for those participating in regular physical activity during the last 6 months. Conclusion: It was seen that aerobic step exercise effected stress level, quality of life and menstruation in sedentary women. It is recommended that aerobic step exercises should be carried out in sedentary women to reduce stress and improve quality of life. Organizations are encouraged to raise awareness of women in this direction to increase their awareness of the benefits of regular aerobic exercises. In addition, it is necessary to remove from the understanding that it is a luxury to exercise in today's economic conditions and to create an easy and necessary understanding that can be done by everyone.
