Özet
20. yüzyılın sonlarına yaklaştığımız şu günlerdeçağdaş tıp, insanlığın yakasını bırakmayan pekçok hastalığı önleyebilecek duruma geldiği halde,gelişmekte olan ülkelerde halen günde 5 yaşındanküçük 40.000 çocuk hayatını kaybetmektedir. Gelişmişülkelerde bu oran % 3'den az olmakla birlikte,bu ülkelerin yoksul kesimlerindeki yaşam düzeyiçevresel bozulma, şiddet, aile yapısının çökmesi veuyuşturucu kullanımı gibi çeşitli nedenlerle bu orangiderek kötüleşmiştir.
