Abstract

The study aims to determine the effect of patient-physician communication on patients' intention to complain. The study sample consists of 460 people who agreed to participate in the study. A questionnaire consisting of three parts was used as a data collection tool. The questionnaire consists of Socio-Demographic Characteristics, Patient-Physician Communication Scale and Intention to Complain Scale. Descriptive statistical methods, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis, independent samples t test and one-way ANOVA were used in the analysis of the data. The regression analysis results show that patient-physician communication has a negative and significant effect on patients' intention to complain. These results indicate that as patient-physician communication increases, the patient's intention to complain decreases. In addition, the results of independent samples t test and one-way ANOVA revealed significant differences between the socio-demographic characteristics of the participants and their intention to complain. As a result, it shows that individuals' intention to complain is related to perceived patient-physician communication, and as patient-physician communication gets more robust, the intention to complain weakens. At the same time, the differentiation of the intention to complain according to the difference in the demographic characteristics of the participants comes to the fore as an issue that should be emphasized in terms of health managers.
