Abstract

Aim: This study was carried out in order to examine the postgraduate thesis studies on reflexology practice in the field of Nursing in Turkey. Method: In this systematic review study, postgraduate thesis studies evaluating the effectiveness of reflexology practice in nursing between 2000-2019 were examined. In order to reach the postgraduate theses in the study, the National Thesis Center Database was searched with the keywords "reflexology" and "reflexology". At the end of the screening, 43 theses on reflexology application were reached between 2008 and 2019, but since 3 theses were conducted outside the field of nursing, the study was carried out using the data of 40 theses. After the theses were separated as master and doctoral theses, they were analyzed in chronological order. For the analysis of the data, numerical evaluations were made using the SPSS 22 version. Results: It was found that the first nursing thesis evaluating the effectiveness of reflexology practice in Turkey was made in 2008. It was determined that 13 theses were master theses, 27 theses were doctoral theses, 36 theses were randomized controlled experimental studies, and 4 theses were semi-experimental studies. When the distribution of theses included in the study according to nursing programs is examined; 27.5% of internal diseases, 25% of obstetrics and gynecology nursing, 22.5% of nursing department, 10% of pediatric health and diseases, 7.5% of nursing principles and 2.5% of surgical diseases, public health and in the field of psychiatric nursing. Conclusion: In the majority of the theses included in the study, it was concluded that reflexology application was effective according to the purpose of use. Although the recently increased number of studies related to reflexology treatments in Turkey, more studies are needed with larger sample group to be made to ensure the effectiveness of the application.
