Abstract

Objective: This study was carried out to determine the level of identification of safety measures against home accidents and the factors affecting mothers with children in the 0-6 age group. Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with 334 mothers of children aged 0-6 who were treated on pediatric wards of university hospital in the North of Turkey between May-June 2019. Data were collected using the Descriptive Information Form and the "0-6 Year Old Children's Mothers' Identification Scale Security Measures Towards Home Accidents". Data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation and median, t-test, one way variance analysis (ANOVA) and and the Tukey test. Results: 24.6% of the mothers stated that their children had an accident at home and the most common type of accident at home was falling (64.6%). The scale points of the mothers were mean 162.00±22.22. It was found that the mother's age and educational status, her child's previous accident status affected the level of identification of safety measures for home accidents (p <0.05).Conclusions: Mothers' level of identification of security measures for home accidents was found to be high. It was observed that as the age and education levels of the mothers increased, the level of identification of safety measures for home accidents increased.
