Abstract

In this study, the effect of aerobic and anoxic phase durations on simultaneous organic carbon and nitrogen removal was studied in three sequencing batch reactor (SBR). The higher organic matter and nitrogen removal was obtained in reactor (AKR 2) to be aerobic phase duration of 4 hours and anoxic phase duration of 2 hours. In this reactor (AKR 2), the removal efficiencies of COD, NH4+-N, NOX (NO2+NO3) were about 90 %, 92 % and 64 %, respectively.
