Abstract

Internal and external debt and inflation are the most pressing economic problems facing the economy of countries. Constant budget deficits, conjunctural fluctuations, a strong and persistant informal economy, the financing of debt repayment by undertaking further debt, wastefulness and the frequent occurance of natural disasters are some of the factors contributing to large amounts of internal and external debts. This paper examines the relationships between debts and inflation. While some views contend that internal and external debts have an inflationary effect, others assert the contrary-that internal and external debts have an deflationary effect. The majority supported view is that both of two kinds of debts tend to have an inflationary effect.
