Abstract
In this study the photographers contracted by the newspaper with the photos of the candidates attented to the beauty contest in 1929 for the first time in our country and their portraits were reviewed. The photographers who were contracted by the newspaper is the focus of this study and thus the newspaper from th at year was reviewed. Both information and photographs about this contest were collected and analyzed and information about the photography studio was amongst the research. The photographers work was grouped and reviewed based on lighting style, composition and background criteria. The newspaper first suggested Foto Weinberger but because of his busy schedule Foto Ferit Ibrahim, FotoFemina, Foto Febus, Foto Kanzler, Sebah and Joailler were later suggested. Located in Beyoglu, these photography studios were the country's finest and most important studios with photographers who were reknown for photographing the Sultan and royalty during the last period of the Ottoman Empire and Ataturk and his governors during the first years of the new Republic of Turkey. This study, with the thought of being important for our country’s photographic history, is concentrated on the composition method and image analysis of the photoshoots of the photographers that are contracted with the newspaper. Bu çalışmada ülkemizde ilk kez 1929 yılında yapılmış olan güzellik yarışmasına katılan adayların fotoğraflarını çeken gazetenin anlaşmalı olduğu fotoğrafçılar ve çektikleri portreler irdelenmiştir. Bunun için; Cumhuriyet Gazetesi’nin 1929 yılı taranmıştır. Yarışma ile ilgili bilgiler ve fotoğraflar derlenmiştir. Fotoğrafların çekimlerini yapan fotoğrafhaneler hakkında bilgiler toplanmıştır. Fotoğrafçıların çektikleri fotoğraflar gruplandırılarak aydınlatma tarzı, kompozisyon ve fon kriterleri bakımından değerlendirilmiştir. Gazete ilk başta fotoğraf çekimi için anlaşmalı olduğu Foto Weinberger’i (Foto Français) adres göstermiş ancak sonradan yoğunluk gerekçesiyle Foto Ferit İbrahim, Foto Femina, Foto Febüs, Foto Kanzler, Sébah & Joailler’ı çekim için başvurulabileceğini açıklamıştır. Bu fotoğrafhanelerin hepsi İstanbul’da Beyoğlu’ndadır. Bu isimler ülkemizin en önemli fotoğrafhanelerdir. Fotoğrafçıların çoğu Osmanlı’nın son döneminde padişahı ve saray erkanı’nı, Cumhuriyetin ilk yıllarında ise Atatürk ve devlet kademesinin portre fotoğraflarını çekmişlerdir. Bu çalışmada, ülkemiz fotoğraf tarihi açısından da bu yarışmanın önemli olduğu düşüncesiyle, fotoğraflarını çeken gazete ile anlaşmalı fotoğrafçıların yapmış oldukları çekimler, kompozisyon yöntemi ile imaj analizi bağlamında incelenmiştir. Türkiye’nin ilk güzellik müsabakasında adayların başvurusu için çekilen fotoğraflar üzerinden değerlendirmelere belirtilen bağlamda literatürde rastlanmamıştır.
