Abstract

The Covid-19 virus, which emerged in Wuhan, China, affected the whole world, threatened the physiological health of the society and caused many people to die. With the epidemic reaching a global dimension, it is seen that awareness of the role of healthcare professionals in this critical process is increasing. Healthcare workers who are at the forefront in the fight against this epidemic are at greater risk because they are in constant close contact with infected or likely to be infected individuals. Health workers have been greatly affected by this epidemic not only physiologically but also psychologically. Factors such as fear of being infected with the corona virus, lack of equipment, staying away from their families to prevent contamination, heavy workload, the unknown of the epidemic, and physical fatigue cause psychological problems such as anxiety, depression, loneliness, burnout, and post-traumatic stress disorder in healthcare workers. These psychological problems limit the working efficiency and problem-solving skills of healthcare professionals. While problems related to the social, economic and technological dimensions of the epidemic were voiced at the beginning of the process, today the place and importance of health workers in this epidemic is better understood and academic studies are carried out in order to reveal the status of health workers. In the light of this information, the aim of our review is to emphasize the psychological effects of the corona virus epidemic on healthcare workers.
