Abstract

Introduction: It is important to evaluate sexual health during pregnancy to provide care with a holistic approach. The beliefs and attitudes of the students who will provide health counseling in the future towards sexuality during pregnancy should be known and the perception of sexual myth, which is one of the barriers to their care, should be changed. This study was carried out to determine the effect of sexual health education on sexual myths during pregnancy given to students studying in different health departments. Method: A pretest-posttest quasi-experimental research design was used in the study. The population of the study consisted of 140 students who had taken the Pregnancy and Birth elective course, and the study sample included 126 students who agreed to participate in the study. The students were given a total of 10 hours of education on sexual health during pregnancy in 4 sessions. Data were collected before the sexual health education by using a personal information form and the Sexual Myths during Pregnancy Scale. Statistical analyses were conducted on the IBM SPSS 24 software package. Results: According to the findings of the study, it was determined that there was no significant difference between the mean scores of the students from the pre-test and post-test application of the sexual myths during pregnancy scale in terms of gender, the level of family education, and family type factors, but that the education given reduced false beliefs. Conclusion: As a result, in our study, it was determined that most of the students believed in myths about sexuality during pregnancy. On the other hand, it has been determined that the education to be given to young people about sexuality can reduce false beliefs, taboos and prejudices in young people.
