Ömer Şevket Öncel (1880–1950) was the first professor of analytical chemistry at the School of Pharmacy of the Istanbul University. His textbook entitled Lessons on Analytical Chemistry (Kimya-yı Tahlili-yi Tavsifi Dersleri) went through a number editions and are central to his publications. The first edition of this text, compiled, edited and mimeographed by his students in 1920, has been recovered recently, completing Prof. Öncel‟s bibliography. These notes allows us to date his academic work, and the expansion of its context to the 1930s.

Bugüne kadar yapılan yayınlarda, Darülfünun Tıp Fakültesi Eczacılık Okulu‟nda analitik kimya derslerini veren Prof. Ömer Şevket Öncel (1880– 1950) ders notlarını içeren Kimya-yı Tahlili-yi Tavsifi Dersleri adlı kitabının ikinci (1924) ve üçüncü baskıları (1932) incelenmiş, fakat ilk baskısı görülmemiştir. Bu çalışmada, Muallim Kimyager Ömer Şevket Bey‟in öğrencileri tarafından derlenerek çoğaltılan Kimya-yı Tahlili-yi Tavsifi Dersleri‟nin birinci baskısı (1920) bulunarak tanıtılmıştır
