Wolfgang Gleißberg (1903-1986), was elected president to the Turkish Astronomical Society (TAD, est. 1954) for the term of 1957-1958.Dr. Gleißberg’s initial proposals for the Society included the publication of a quartely bulletin. The first issue of Gökyüzü (The Sky), a 4-page newsletter in mimeograph was distributed in the July of 1957, the year TAD also inaugurated public conferences. The first lecture was given by Wolfgang Gleißberg himself on the subject artificial satellites in the aftermath of the first Sputnik in space. Although, the Gökyüzü bulletin was short-lived, it is a unique source of information for the progress of astronomy in Turkey. Dr. Wolfgang Gleissberg’in Türkiye’deki çalışmaları arasında, 1954’te kurulan Türk Astronomi Derneği (TAD) başkanlığının özel bir yeri vardır. Gleissberg, TAD Yönetim Kurulu Başkanlığını, 1957’de Prof.Dr. Nüzhet Gökdoğan’dan devraldıktan sonra bir çalışma programı hazırlamıştır. Programın ilk maddesi Dernek üyeleri için üçaylık bir bülten hazırlanmasıdır. Gökyüzü adı verilen bu bültenin ilk sayısı Temmuz 1957‘de yayımlanmıştır. Aynı yıl içinde halka açık astronomi konferansları başlatılmış ve ilk konferansı yine W. Gleissberg yapma uydular (suni peyk) konusunda vermiştir. TAD’nin Gökyüzü bülteni, Gleissberg’in Türkiye’den ayrılışına kadar beş sayı yayımlanabilmiştir. Wolfgang Gleissberg, 1958’de TAD başkanlığından ayrılırken Derneğin ‘Onursal Başkanı’ seçilmiştir.
