Abstract

In this study, structural performance of Yakutiye Madrasah, which is an important historical structure located in the city center of Erzurum, is investigated using static and dynamic analyses. For determining the material and load carrying member properties of the structure a theoretical approach was proposed based on the available masonry mechanical models. Dynamic analysis displayed that the most critical part of the structure is the base region of the minaret where it connects with the walls. Under the applied earthquake load intensity the part of the minaret above the madrasah main walls collapsed. No damage but only local minor cracks were observed on the main structure. The earthquake load on the structure due to application of different ground motions was lower than the lateral load capacity of the structure calculated according to code
