Abstract

In this study membranes were prepared from alginic acid(AA) and their performance in dialysis processes was investigated. Membranes prepared from the sodium salt of AA were modified by using solutions containing $Zn^{2+}$ and$Al^{3+}$ions. Permeability of sodium chloride (NaCl), urea $(CN_2H_4O)$ and creatinine$(C_4N_3H_6O)$were determined by using dialysis method. Zinc ion containing mem-branes showed high permeability for sodium chloride and creatinine whereas the permeability of urea was found to be high in the case of AA membranes.
