Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate sixth grade students’ identifying and drawing of parallel and perpendicular line/ line segments. In this study, case study design method was used. As a data collection tool, four-item scale developed by researchers to determine students’ drawing skills of parallel line segments to a given line segments, drawing skills of perpendicular line from a point given on or outside of line, identification level of line or line segments which are parallel or perpendicular each other was used. Descriptive analysis of data showed that the students were better on both drawing and identifying about parallelism and perpendicularity of horizontal and vertical lines/line segments. Furthermore the students’ thoughts on parallelism and perpendicularity and the achievement of drawing may vary in appearance of given lines/line segments, the students’ achievement in drawing parallel and perpendicular lines/line segments was higher than their achievement of identifying parallel and perpendicular lines/line segment .
