Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate patients with Ewing's sarcoma treated at a single institute, retrospectively. Material and Methods: 25 patients with Ewing's sarcoma admitted to Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Department between January 1983 and January 2003 were enrolled into the study. All patients were under age of 16 and had no treatment previously. All diagnoses were confirmed with biopsy. The survival rates were calculated by Kaplan-Meier method. Results: The median age was 9.0 years; range, 3.0 to 15.0 years. At diagnosis, 16 patients had local-regional disease, and 9 had distant metastases. The mean follow-up of all patients was 50 months (range 4-108 months). The 4-year event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) rates were 30.8 and 31.1 % respectively. Conclusion: Despite significant progress with the use of intensive multiagent chemotherapy and local control measures, satisfactory survival rates could not be achieved.
