Abstract

Nervous system involvement is an uncommon complication of brucellosis. In adults, clinical manifestation may range from severe meningoencephalitis or peripheral neuropathy/radiculopathy to such behavioural disturbances as depression, mental inattention, hallucination, amnesia, psychosis, agitation, nightmares, personality disorder, euphoria, nervousness. In contrast, neurobrucellosis is usually of acute presentation in children involving the central nervous system and neuropsychiatric manifestation is rarely observed. The most clinical form in children are meningitis and meningoencephalitis. In this case report, we described an eight year old girl with neurobrucellosis primarily displaying neuropsychiatric symptoms. In endemic areas, neurobrucellosis should be suspected in the evaluation of patients with unexplained neurologic symptoms.
