Abstract

Cotton is an important crop in Kahramanmaraş Province of Turkey. Surveys were carried out in 49 fields in three districts of province in 2001 to determine weeds in cotton fields. Twenty seven weed species from 15 plant families were determined, which two of them belong to monocotyledonae and the others are dicotyledonae. The most common weed species was Xanthium strumarium, which is determined 80.63 % of surveyed fields. Solanum nigrum, Sorghum halepense, Portulaca oleracea, Convolvulus arvensis, Echinochloa colonum, Amaranthus retroflexus, Setaria verticillata, Hibiscus trionum and Cyperus rotundus were seen over 25 % of the fields, respectively. Common weeds were higher density as well although they were not in the same order. Convolvulus arvensis was the densest weed with 0.87 plant/m2 density. Disturbance and density of some important weeds differed among districts. In-field distribution of Xanthium strumarium, Solanum nigrum, Sorghum halepense, Portulaca oleracea, Echinochloa colonum and Amaranthus retroflexus was higher. The number of weed species in a field and the size of a field did not correlate. The most important species were found altogether in more than half of the surveyed fields. It is concluded that current weed control techniques in cotton are not sufficient.

Özet

Pamuk, Kahramanmaraş ilinin önemli kültür bitkilerinden biridir. İlin pamuk tarlalarındaki yabancı ot türlerinin belirlenmesi amacıyla, 2001 yılında üç ilçede (Merkez ilçe, Pazarcık ve Türkoğlu) toplam 49 tarlada survey yapılmıştır. İki tek çenekli ve 13 çift çenekli olmak üzere toplam 15 familyaya ait, 27 yabancı ot türü saptanmıştır. Domuz pıtrağına (Xanthium strumarium) survey yapılan tarlaların % 80.63'ünde rastlanmıştır. Sırasıyla, % 25'in üzerinde yayılış gösteren yabancı otlar; köpek üzümü (Solarium nigrum), kanyaş (Sorghum halepense), semizotu (Portulaca oleraced), tarla sarmaşığı (Convolvulus arvensis), benekli darıcan (Echinochloa colonum), kırmızı köklü tilki kuyruğu (Amaranthus retroflexus), yapışkanot (Setaria verticillata), yabani bamya (Hibiscus trionum) ve topalak (Cyperus rotundus) olarak sıralanmıştır.
