Abstract
Objectives: Seizure is a medical emergency condition and in the literature, studies reporting the frequency in emergency service (ES) of seizures are extremely seldom. The aim our study was to determine the frequency of seizures within all neurological emergencies. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study has included the period of 1 year (1 April 2001 to 31 March 2002). The data of the patients were obtained from the special forms of our service. Results: In our study, seizures comprised the 0.6% of all emergency service admissions. Within total 672 emergency neurological picture, the frequency of the cases with seizure was 7.1% (n=48). Conclusion: Seizures are frequent among neurological emergencies which are assessed in ES. For this reason, it is very important that in ES, the differential diagnosis and emergency management of seizures can be made by the physician of ES.

Giriş: Epileptik nöbet (EN) medikal acil bir durumdur ve literatürde acil serviste (AS) EN ile ilgili epidemiyolojik çalışmalar oldukça sınırlı sayıdadır. Çalışmamızda acil serviste klinik epileptik nöbet tanısı alan hastaların nörolojik aciller içindeki sıklığının belirlenmesi amaçlandı. Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu retrospektif çalışma, 01 Nisan 2001 - 31 Mart 2002 tarihleri arasındaki bir yıllık dönemi kapsamaktadır. Hastalara ait bilgiler kliniğimizin özel hazırlanmış kartlarından elde edildi. Bulgular: Çalışmamızda, EN'ler tüm acil başvurularının yaklaşık %0.6'sını oluşturdu. Toplam 672 acil nörolojik tablo içinde EN tanısı alan olguların sıklığı ise %7.1 (n=48) idi. Sonuç: Epileptik nöbetler acil serviste değerlendirilen nörolojik aciller içinde sık gözlenen klinik tablolardan biridir. EN'ler ciddi bir klinik tablo olması ve ayrıcı tanıda senkop gibi birçok ciddi tablonun eşlik etmesi nedeniyle acil servis hekimleri için ayırıcı tanı ve acil müdahale açısından önemlidir.
