Abstract

Objective: Borderline personality organization/disorder is a psychopathology which should be diagnosed since it can both cause disability and worsen the prognosis of other disorders in psychiatric daily practice. Borderline Personality Inventory (BPI) mostly focuses on borderline personality organization and is a 53-item self-rated scale based on Kernberg's structural borderline organization. Since no scale on borderline personality is available in Turkey, in this study, adaptation into Turkish, and reliability and validity of Borderline Personality Inventory are tested. Method: The inventory was first translated into Turkish by three psychiatrists, secondly it was back-translated by a linguist into English, and then the final text was confirmed by the psychiatrists. The study was carried out with 40 patients diagnosed as borderline personality disorder, 35 patients as major depressive disorder and 30 patients as schizophrenia according to DSM-IV, and 61 healthy subjects. Results: Mean age of the study group was 28.2± 10.3. In reliability analyses, Cronbach alpha coefficient of the whole group was 0.92, and for the borderline personality disorder group it was 0.84. Test-retest correlation was found to be r=0.67 (p
