Abstract

The Effect of Medroxyprogesterone Acetate on Nausea-Vomiting, Body Weight and Performance Status in Hormone Sensitive and Non-Hormone Sensitive Cancers Ten patients with breast cancer (hormone sensitive) and 15patients with gastric cancer (non-hormone sensitive) who had taken their first cycle chemotherapy without medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA), were given the second cycle chemotherapy with high dose MPA (1 g/day) for 3 or 4 weeks depending on the chosen chemotherapy regimen. An increase of body weight was observed in 10 gastric cancer patients out of 15, and 6 of İO breast cancer patients. Chemotherapy associated nausea and vomiting were decreased in 10 gastric cancer and 7 breast cancer patients. Ten gastric cancer and 7 breast cancer patients had improved performance status. No difference was observed between breast and stomach can-cer in respect of positive effects of MPA.
