Abstract

We are living a process which rapid developments in science and technology have led to important social changes. Cultural and physical distances between people and societies have been disappeared due to the advancements particularly occured in the fields of (tele) communication and transportation. This process, which is called globalization and internationalization, have given rise to the free movement of social elemets and accumulations (knowledge, education, technology, capital, ideas, commercial products, labour and etc.) throughout the World regardless of their sources/origins. Education, just like all other things, is no longer local or national in the globalized World. It has gained an international outlook with its buildings, students, teachers, instruction and curriculum. As a part of this trend, high schools which accept only foreign students have been started to appear in Turkey. One of such schools is Mustafa Germirli Anatolian İmam Hatip High School (AİHL), located in the province of Kayseri Kocasinan district. This school started to provide education only for foreign students as of 2006 with a decree taken by the General Directorate of Religious Education, Turkish Ministry of National Education. Hence, Mustafa Germirli AİHL has been the first high school in Turkey, providing education only for foreign students as of 2006. With the expansion of internalization in the field of education, the number of international high schools will inevitably rise in Turkey within a short period of time. From this fact, in this study, it was aimed to draw attention to the importance and the educational activities of Mustafa Germirli Anatolian İmam Hatip High School being the first international high school in the field of religious education.
