Abstract

Plasma which is the fourth state of the matter can be defined as an ionised gas composed of radicals, metastabil molecules, photons, charged particles such as ions and electrons, neutral atoms or molecules. By transfering of energy from the excited plasma particles to the substrate, the surface modification can be achived without effecting the bulk properties of the material. Plasma modification can take place in different ways like surface activation, surface etching, deposition of a thin film of polymer, grafting of molecules on the material surface, crosslinking, chain scission, oxidation.
