Abstract

This study measures the levels of willingness to pay for the improved water quality from households in Southeastern Anatolia Region (SAP) comprising six cities including Sanlıurfa, Gaziantep, Diyarbakır, Batman, Mardin andAdıyaman, while a bid price was introduced to households for improving the current level of potable water by collecting socio-demographic and economic related characteristics. Bid prices, income, perception about the water quality, education, whether a household residing in a greater municipality (Gaziantep or Diyarbakir) and the use of spring water in household were all found to be statistically significant and had different impacts on the willingness-to-pay. An average willingness-to-pay was estimated to be around 6 YTL. Overall, suggestive conclusions were presented to local politicians who are in charge of managing water networks in the region.
