Abstract

Froth flotation is a widely used physicochemical separation method for the benefication of fine coals and ores since 1920s. The process of flotation is based on the generation of gas bubbles in the pulp and subsequent attachment and removal of hydrophobic particles from the pulp by the rising gas bubbles. At present, the flotation technology has been commonly used not only in the mineral industry but also the non-mineral industries, including water and sewage purification, recycled paper de-inking, contamined solid remediation, dye, plastic and food industries. In this study, the alternative flotation methods, which are used in mineral industry and non-mineral industries, are described and their operating principles are explained in detail
