Abstract

The corrosion features of AZ91 magnesium matrix composite materials, which are reinforced with TiNi microparticles at the rate of 5-25% volumetrically, were investigated by potentiodynamic polarization (PDS) method in 3.5% NaCl solution. Electrochemical evaluations were detected by the Tafel extrapolation technique. Metallographic examinations were carried out using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and an optical microscope (OM). The microstructural analyses have been supporting electrochemical values. Corrosion potential (Ecor) and corrosion current density (ίcorr) of values were specified to increase with increasing reinforcement amount. In post-corrosion surface examinations, pitting corrosion was observed in all composite specimens. It has been determined that β-Mg17Al12 intermatalic precipitates in the matrix phase and inhomogeneities in the surface morphology have a significant effect on the corrosion resistance of composite materials.

Özet

TiNi mikro partiküller ile %5-25 hacimsel oranlarda takviye edilen AZ91 magnezyum matrisli kompozit malzemelerin korozyon özellikleri %3.5 NaCl çözeltisi içerisinde potansiyodinamik polarizasyon (PDS) yöntemi ile araştırılmıştır. Elektrokimyasal değerlendirmeler Tafel ekstrapolasyonu tekniği ile saptanmıştır. Metalografik incelemeler taramalı elektron mikroskobu (SEM) ve optik mikroskop (OM) kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Mikroyapısal analizler elektrokimyasal değerler ile birbirini desteklemektedir. Korozyon potansiyeli (Ecorr) ve korozyon akım yoğunluğu (ίcorr) değerlerinin artan takviye miktarıyla artığı belirlenmiştir. Korozyon sonrası yüzey incelemelerinde tüm kompozit numunelerde çukurcuk korozyonu gözlenmiştir. Matris fazda yer alan alan β-Mg17Al12 intermatalik çökeltilerin ve yüzey morfolojisindeki homojensizliklerin kompozit malzemelerin korozyon dayanımı üzerinde önemli bir etkiye sahip olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
