Abstract

Objective: Assessment of mucociliary clearance in patients with external dacryocystorhinostomy with bicanalicular silicone tube intubation. Material and Method: In this study, 29 patients who underwent external dacryocystorhinostomy with bicanalicular silicone tube intubation were reviewed retrospectively. Mucociliary clearance values of the patients were recorded by measuring the preoperative and postoperative 1st, 3rd and 6th months. Measurements were compared using Student's t test and p value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: 24 (82.8%) of the patients were female and 5 (17.2%) were male, and the mean age was 39.79 ± 10.55 years. The mean followup was 12 months. Mucociliary clearance measurements performed after surgery were found to be shortened compared to preoperative measurement. But it was found that there was no significant difference between the pre-operative mucociliary clearance values and postoperative 1st month clearance values (p=0.188). A statistically significant difference was found between preoperative values and postoperative 3rd and 6th month values (p
