Abstract

This prospective study was designed to evaluate the effect of a randomly selected hemodialysis session on hearing of patients with chronic renal failure. Patients and Methods: The study group was comprised of 38 ears of 19 patients receiving hemodialysis treatment for chronic renal failure. Audiological tests (acoustic immitancemeter, pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry and high frequency audiometry) were performed before, two hours after, and 12 hours after a randomly assigned hemodialysis session. Results were evaluated in paired comparisons. Results: No significant differences were found in paired comparisons of three different audiological evaluations (p>0.01). Conclusion: It was concluded that hearing is not significantly affected by a single hemodialysis session in chronic renal failure.

Özet

Amaç: Çalışmada, kronik böbrek yetmezliği nedeniyle hemodiyaliz tedavisi gören hastalarda rastgele bir hemodiyaliz seansının işitme üzerine olan etkileri araştırıldı. Hastalar ve Yöntemler: Kronik böbrek yetmezliği nedeniyle hemodiyaliz tedavisi gören 19 hastanın 38 kulağı incelendi. Her hastada, rastgele bir hemodiyaliz seansı dikkate alınarak prediyalitik, postdiyalitik (2 saat sonra) ve interdiyalitik (12 saat sonrası) dönemlerinde akustik immitansmetri, saf ses odyometrisi, konuşma odyometrisi, yüksek frekans odyometrisi testleri uygulandı. Sonuçlar ikili gruplar halinde karşılaştırıldı. Bulgular: Hastaların üç değişik hemodiyaliz evresinde elde edilen verilerinin birbirinden anlamlı düzeyde farklı olmadığı saptandı (p>0.01). Sonuç: Kronik böbrek yetmezliğinde, işitmenin tek bir hemodiyaliz seansından anlamlı derecede etkilenmediği sonucuna varıldı.
