Abstract

Antibiotic-induced psychiatric conditions are rare but important side-effects of antibiotics. There have been many reports about psychiatric symptoms or syndromes due to procain penicilin and the other antibiotics (i.e. klaritromycin, azocillin, gentamycin, benzylpenicillin). But all of these cases had been occured with intramuscular or intra venos injections. In this document, we report a 37 years old male patient who developed manic-like symptoms two hours after the second dose oral phenoxy-methyl-penicillin for upper respiratory tract infection. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report about manic symptoms occurred with oral phenoxy-methyl-penicillin.
