Abstract

Although extraocular muscle dysfunction often occurs temporarily after retinal detachment surgery, permanent muscle imbalance has also been observed after all types of retinal detachment surgery. Reoperations and the placement of large scleral exoplants beneath muscles are known the most important factors that cause this condition. Because of cosmetic reasons, we operated a patient who developed restrictive tropias, due to scleral buckle material, following retinal detachment surgery. Preoperative examination was right esotropia that Hirschberg was over 45°, Krimsky was over 90 prism dioptre. There was restriction in all fields of gaze. Forced duction test under general anesthesia was positive. The abnormal adhesions observed between conjunctiva, Tenon's capsule and muscle were removed during the operation.
