Abstract

Background: The aim of this study was to compare preoperative and postoperative keratometric values in patients who had Descemet Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK) surgery. Methods: Twenty five eyes of 25 patients who had undergone DSAEK surgery due to endothelial dysfunction were reviewed retrospectively. Refractive and keratometric measurements were recorded. Results: There were 11 (44%) female and 14 (56%) male patients. The mean age was 60.4±11.5 years (range 41-81). Nineteen eyes (76%) had bullous keratopathy, 4 eyes (16%) had Fuch s endothelial dystrophy and 2 eyes (8%) had corneal graft failure. The mean follow-up period was 25.4±9.2 months (6-45 months). The mean maximum keratometry (Kmax) was 43.82±1.59 Diopter (D) (range, 42.00-50.00 D) preoperatively. The mean Kmax was 44±1.7 D (42.00-50.00 D) at the first control visit and 44.05±2.12 D (41.75-49.75 D) at the last control visit postoperatively. The mean keratometric astigmatism was 1.72±1.34 D preoperatively. The mean keratometric astigmatism was 1.69±1.27 D at the first month and 1.65±1.51D at the last control visit. Conclusion: DSAEK surgery resulted in better outcomes, preserving anatomical integrity, causing minimal corneal keratometric changes, inducing minimal astigmatism with stable refractive values.
