Abstract

Background: The aim of the study was to evaluate carotid artery intima media thickness in patients with non-alcholic fatty liver disease and in healthy controls. Methods: A total of 100 patients with hepatosteatosis as diagnosed by upper abdominal ultrasonography and 30 healthy subjects without hepatosteatosis who presented at the internal medicine clinic were enrolled in the study. Carotid artery intima media thickness was measured in all study subjects by ultrasonography. Patient lipid profile, fasting serum basal insulin, fasting plasma glucose, homeostatic insulin resistance, C- reactive protein level, and liver function tests were completed and evaluated in all study subjects. Results: Carotid artery intima media thickness was significantly higher among hepatosteatosis patients (p
