Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the pregnancy outcomes in women aged 40 years and older to that of WO' men 20 to 29 years old after 20 weeks of gestation. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional retrospective study, 153 pregnant women at least 40 years of age consisted the study group while 156 pregnant women aged between 20 and 29 years consisting the control group. The relation betwe-en maternal age and pregnancy outcomes was analysed with contingency y} or two-tailed Fisher's exact test with adjusted odds ratios according to age group. Results: Multiparity and pre-existing chronic medical diseases were observed more frequently in the study group. Older gra-vidas were more likely to develop gestational diabetes (OR: 15.6, 95% CI: 2.0-120.3) and preeclampsia (OR: 3.9, 95% CI: 1.9-8.0). Older women were also at increased risk for cesarean delivery (OR: 2.3, 95% CI: 1.4-3.7). Rates of delivery before 34 weeks (OR: 4.1, 95% CI: 1.3-12.8) and before 37 weeks (OR: 3.0, 95% CI: 1.2-7.4) were also observed significantly hig¬her in the study group. Low birth weight (
