Abstract
We describe the initial course and follow-up of 27 year-old female patient who presented in 1994 with aortitis and celiac sprue. Segmental occlusion of the subclavian artery was demonstrated on aortography. Jejunal biopsy revealed celiac sprue. Following institution of steroid therapy and gluten free diet functional use of the upper extremity improved, constitutional symptoms resolved and biopsy findings normalized rapidly. Two months later, tapering of the corticostero¬id dosage was complicated by flares in constitutional symptoms and return of upper extremity claudication.
