Abstract

Gossypiboma, or textiloma, retantion of surgical sponges in body cavities is a preventable condition that has seen very raerly, generally asymptomatic but leads to morbidity and mortality. A 49 years-old female patient, who has been operated in our instution with intermittent severe abdominal pain in postoperative period was reevaluated and sonographic examination revealed a cystic mass measuring d 41x27,43x34 and 39x34 mm and ascites at right adnexial region. Patient was reoperated due to suspicioun of gossypiboma. In order to prevent these types of complications, we must control and count all of the surgical materials before closing the abdomen.
