Abstract

Ceramic industry is one of the “dusty sector” which silicosis is common. Therefore it is important to systematically obtain health and exposure data, evaluate the risk of pneumoconiosis, and protect the health of employees without irreversible damage thanks to early diagnosis A 40-year-old patient was referred to our clinic due to pathological lesions on the chest radiogram. He were working in the municipal gardening business for the last 5 years. He had been employed as a mill worker in the ceramics industry between 2003-2013. On his chest X-ray; millimetric small round opacities, large opacities, and bilateral hilar fullness were detected. Audiometric examination findings were consistent with noise-induced hearing loss in both ears. Since regular health monitoring is not carried out in the workplace, the health problem associated with the high risk of exposure to dust arising from work conditions has been diagnosed after it has become complicated. The diagnosis was made by accident years after he left the job, not at the recruitment, periodic examination or dismissal examination at the workplace. Health surveillance should be implemented at recruitment, periodic inspection, return to work and dismissal examinations.
