Abstract

Twenty four Nick Brown laying hens, 25 wk of age, were used to de¬termine the effect of dietary aluminum on metabolism, egg production and egg shell quality. The experiment was conducted for 40 days. Dietary aluminum supplementations for experimental group were done as 2 g/kg aluminum in form of aluminum sulfate. Individual egg production records were kept daily throughout the experiment. On Days 0, 20 and 40, body weight data were recorded, eggs were collected, and blood samples were taken. Collected eggs were weighed. Egg specific gravity was determined. Shell thickness and weight were measured. Alanin amino transferase (ALT), aspartat amino transferase (AST), lactat dehydrogenase (LDH), cholesterol, calcium (Ca), inorganic phosphorus (Pi) determinations were done in sera. Aluminum analyses were done in sera and eggs collected on Day 40, and in basal diet and drinking water. Body weight was not different between control and experimental groups. Egg shell thickness was significantly reduced by dietary Al on Day 20 (p
