Abstract

Full porcelain restorations like laminate veneer crown and porcalain inlays are generally used for restoring aesthetic problems, defects and deficiancies. Because of their limited preparation needs, they are considered as conservative methods. Advanced technology and material sciences contributed to their higher success. Although, dental porcelain has superior aesthetic results but may be subject to fracture during mastication. For these reason, in this study flexural strength and surface hardness of two different dental porcelains were investigated. First part of these methods evaluated the flexural strength for two ceramics that has been prepared with different techniques by a three -point bending test Specimens has been divided into two groups and each group consists ten samples. Specimens that has been prepared by a heat - pressed technique showed a higher modulus of rupture compared to those specimens made by the refractory die technique. On the other hand, the relative hardness of this materials were evaluated by Barkol hardness apparatus. For these purpose two groups including glazed and non-glazed porcelain groups has been evaluated. Significant deferences in hardness could be detected between the groups. The hardness values of glazed IPS - Empress specimens were higher than the other groups, and non-glazed specimens made by the refractory die technique showed the lowest hardness values.
