The object of this article is to present all the aspects of underground mining activities in Zonguldak coal mines, the history of the mines, geological conditions, coal seam characteristics and general layout of the districts. Emphasis has been paid to mining methods, old and new, the available machinery and rates of output. Genera considerations for the future expansion programme are mentioned, and basic existing problems of the coal basin are discussed with personal recommendations for their possible solution, by the author.

Bu yazının hazırlanmasındaki gaye, maden ocaklarının tarihi, jeolojik durumları, kömür damarlarının karakteristikleri ve bölgelerin genel planlanması dahil, Zonguldak Kömür Ocaklarında yeraltı madencilik faaliyetlerini bütün yönleri ile ortaya koymaktır. Eski ve yeni işletme metodlarına, mevcut madencilik makine ve teçhizatına gerekli ehemmiyet verilmiştir. Geleceğe matuf istihsali geliştirme programında genel mütalâalar belirtilmiş ve Kömür Havzasında var olan temel problemlerin mümkün olabilecek çözüm yolları, yazarın fikirleri ile beraber, tartışılmıştır.
