Abstract

The purpose of this retrospective study was to determine the dermatophytic flora in Samsun. Specimens from patients suspected to have dermatomycosis were studied with direct microscopy and cultural methods in the Mycology Laboratory, Medical Faculty, Ondokuz Mayıs University, between 2001 and 2004. Growth patterns of 354 specimens were identified as 247 (69.8%) Trichophyton rubrum, 74 (20.9%) T. mentagrophytes, 19 (5.5%) T. tonsurans, 4 (1.1%) T. violaceum, 3 (0.8%) Epidermophyton floccosum, 3 (0.8%) T. schoenleinii, 3 (0.8%) Microsporum audouinii ve 1 (0.3%,) T. verrucosum. Trichopyton rubrum was found to be the most frequent dermotophyte and tinea pedis the most frequent form of dermatophytosis.
