Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels can be an activity criterion in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and to compare with the other activity criteria used in RA. In this study, 35 active RA, 31 inactive RA, 25 patients with osteoarthritis and 28 healthy indi¬viduals were evaluated. Additionally, synovial fluid was taken from knees of 10 active RA patients and IL-6 levels of synovial fluid was also measured. Serum IL-6 levels were found to be statisti¬cally significant high 'in active RA patients than in those with inactive RA, or osteoarthritis and healthy individuals (p
