Abstract
Aim: The study was conducted to determine midwifery students considerations regarding the choice of profession, professionalperspectives, professional motivation levels and the factors affectingtheir motivation.Methods: The sample of this descriptive study comprised 220 fi rst-,second-, third- and fourth-year students studying at the Department ofMidwifery Faculty of Health Sciences of a state University. To collectdata, the Personal Information Form questioning socio-demographiccharacteristics of the students and Motivation Sources and ProblemsScale were used. To analyze the data, percentage distribution, analysisof variance (ANOVA), the Student s t-test, the Kruskal-Wallis, theMann-Whitney U test, the Tukey test and Bonferroni-corrected Mann-Whitney U test were used.Results: In this study, it was found that 59.5% of the students placedmidwifery in their fi rst 10 career choices. Other results showed that47.3% of the students chose it willingly, while 69.1% wanted to chooseanother profession. In addition, 74.5% considered midwifery anappropriate profession for themselves, 73.2% somewhat agreed to thecommunity s point of view, 44.5% had somewhat positive views aboutmidwifery before starting school, 75.5% had positive views aboutmidwifery after starting school, and 66.8% considered midwifery adiffi cult profession. In this study, the comparison of the students meanscores in terms of their school years revealed a statistically signifi cant difference for intrinsic, negative and occupational learning motivation(p0.05).Conclusion: The fi rst year of education affected the studentsprofessional motivation positively. It is recommended that studentsstarting university education be informed of the pros and consof midwifery, be motivated to choose a career which they considerappropriate for themselves and that the fourth-year students beprovided with training about professional motivation.

Amaç: Çalışma ebelik bölümü öğrencilerinin meslek seçimine yöne-lik düşünceleri, mesleğe bakış açıları, mesleki güdülenme düzeyleri vegüdülenmeyi etkileyen faktörlerin belirlenmesi amacı ile yapılmıştır.Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı türdeki çalışmanın örneklemini; İç AnadoluBölgesinde lisans eğitimi verilen bir devlet üniversitesinin Sağlık Bilim-leri Fakültesi Ebelik Bölümünün birinci, ikinci, üçüncü ve dördüncüsınıfl arında öğrenim görmekte olan 220 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Veri-lerin toplanmasında öğrencilerin sosyo-demografi k özelliklerini içerenKişisel Bilgi Formu ile Güdülenme Kaynakları ve Sorunları Ölçeği kul-lanılmıştır. Verilerin analizi; yüzdelik dağılım, Varyans analizi (ANO-VA) ve Student T testi, Kruskal Wallis, Mann-Whitney U, Tukey testive Bonferroni düzeltmeli Mann Whitney U testi ile yapılmıştır.Bulgular: Çalışmada öğrencilerin %59.5inin ilk 10 tercihinde ebelikbölümünün yer aldığı, %47.3ünün bölümü kendi isteği ile seçtiği,%69.1inin başka meslek seçmeyi istediği, %74.5inin mesleği kendineuygun bulduğu, %73.2sinin toplumun bakış açısını kısmen olumlukabul ettiği, %44.5inin okula başlamadan önce mesleği kısmen olum-lu, %75.5inin okula başladıktan sonra mesleği olumlu değerlendirdiği,%66.8inin mesleği zor olarak değerlendirdiği bulundu. Öğrencilerinokudukları sınıfa göre içsel güdülenme, olumsuz güdülenme ve mes-leksel öğrenme güdülenmesi puan ortalamaları arasında istatistikselolarak anlamlı fark olduğu (p0.05) saptandı. Sonuç: Öğrencilerin eğitim hayatının birinci sınıfında olması meslekigüdülenmeyi olumlu yönde etkilemektedir. Üniversite tercihi yapacaköğrencilere ebelik mesleği ile ilgili bilgilendirmelerin yapılması, mes-leği kendine uygun bulanların bölümü tercih etmeleri, dördüncü sınıföğrencilerinde mesleki güdülenmeye yönelik çalışmalara yer verilmesiönerilmektedir.
