Abstract

In this study clustering of public hospitals which have 30 and more number of beds that belongs to Ministry of Health in terms of selected organizational and financial performance indicators. Expectation Maximization clustering algorithm was used for clustering of hospitals. 10 fold cross validation method was used for determining optimal cluster number. At the end of the analysis it was determined that hospitals were gathered in 6 different clusters. It was seen that the determinator factor in determining clusters in terms of organizational variables is wheather a hospital is a general hospital or not and hospitals which are in a good situation in terms of financial variables are medium size hospitals and this hospitals gathered in one cluster. According to study findings type and size of hospitals must taken into consideration when assessing hospitals interms of financial performance indicators. Results of the study presents useful informations for professional hospital managers for managing resources effectively, which are meeting resource limitation problem day by day.
