Abstract

Atherosclerosis is an inflammatory disease. The important role of complement system in the inflammatory response at acute myocardial infarction, is proved with a lot of studies. Complement activation's correlation with the infarct area and prognosis is clearly appointed. In our study, complement activation's relation with the peak CKMB level was investigated at STMI. Very significantly correlation between both C3 and peak CKMB, and C4 and peak CKMB, was found. This data shows that complement activation is related with infarct size. Because of this, It was concluded that to eveluate complement activation in acute myocardial infarction can be useful like CK-MB to detect infarct size and to direct therapeutic targets.
