Abstract

This study aimed to compare pain, functional status and quality of life of the patients with knee and hip osteoarthritis andto asses the affect of the variables. Study was performed atGöztepe Education and Training Hospital Physical Medicineand Rehabilitation outpatient clinic. Patients whose diagnoseswere knee osteoarthritis (n=90) and hip osteoarthritis (n=60)according to the ACR criteria were included in the study. Theirdemographic datas were noted. Radiologic grading was assessed by using Kellgren and Lawrence criteria. Outcome measures included VAS, WOMAC, Harris Hip Score and SF-36.There were no statistically significant difference between thegroups according to mean ages, sex distrubition, educationlevel, occupation groups and body mass indexes. According tothe pain, physical function and quality of life, women with hiposteoarthritis were more affected negatively then men.Physical function, physical role, general health subscales ofthe QOL were affected in women with knee osteoarthritis.Although obese knee osteoarthritis patients functional statusand physical fuction subscale of QOL found negatively affected, there were no affect of obesity on pain, function and quality of life in hip osteoarthritis patients. It was detected thatexercises had a positive affect on pain scores, functional statusand QOL of hip osteoarthritis patients; and on pain scores andQOL of knee osteoarthritis patients. Radiologic grade was statistically correlated with functional status and QOL in both ofthe groups. We didn’t detect any statisticaly significant difference between hip osteoarthritis and knee osteoarthritis groups according to pain, functional status and QOL.

Özet

Bu çalışmada kalça ve diz osteoartritli (OA) hastalarda ağrı,fonksiyonel kapasite ve yaşam kalitesinin karşılaştırılması,bunlara etki eden faktörlerin saptanması amaçlandı.Çalışmaya Sağlık Bakanlığı Göztepe Eğitim ve AraştırmaHastanesi Fizik Tedavi ve Rehabilitasyon polikliniğine başvuran, ACR (American College of Rheumatology) kriterlerinegöre kalça OA tanısı almış 60 hasta ile diz OA tanısı almış 90hasta alındı. Demografik verileri kaydedildi. Değerlendirmeiçin VAS (Visual Analog Scale), WOMAC (Western Ontarioand McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index), Harris kalçaskalası, SF-36 (Medical Outcomes Study Short Form HealthSurvey) kullanıldı.
